Hello everyone,
At the end of this summer, we plan to start shipping robots with ROS Noetic and Ubuntu 20.04 preinstalled. We’re moving to ROS Noetic for a number of reasons, including the following:
- Python 3 support
- ROS Noetic was released a year ago and is now the officially recommended distribution
- ROS Noetic and Ubuntu 20.04 are long-term support (LTS) releases with support until 2025
- ROS Noetic is the last official ROS 1 release
- Ubuntu 20.04 will simplify trying out ROS 2 and MoveIt 2 capabilities as they become available
For the adventurous among you, feel free to try out our ROS Noetic development branch. We’re beginning to move to it internally and plan to focus on it for ROS 1 related software development.
