Stretch RE1 - No Boot/Black Screen after NVMe File System Failure

Hi everyone,

I’m seeking help with a boot failure on my Stretch RE1. Currently, when I power on the robot, the LiDAR begins to spin, but the monitor remains black (though it detects a signal). I am unable to reach the Ubuntu login or the BIOS/GRUB menu.

Background: The issue started with a file system error on the internal NVMe: RECOVERY: /dev/nvme0n1p4: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY.

I attempted to run fsck, but the process crashed after approximately 2 hours. After this crash, the system failed to boot. I then tried to boot from a recovery image on a USB drive. Since that attempt, I have lost all video output to the monitor.

Current Symptoms:

  • LiDAR: Spins normally on power-up.

  • Display: Monitor detects a connection but stays black. No cursor or terminal access.

  • Status: Cannot access the OS or see the boot sequence.

Any advice on how to proceed with a hardware reset or drive replacement would be greatly appreciated.
